Xerta Orange Fair

The Xerta Citrus Fair which came into being only last year and was a great success, takes place again this year on the 6th and 7th March.  image
The main activity will once again be based around the Casal with numerous stands dedicated to citrus fruit and local cuisine.  Xertolins and xertolines will be demonstrating local cooking techniques and preparing dishes including desserts typical to the area and Francesc Lopez, chef at the “Torreo de l’India”, the restaurant at the Villa Retiro Hotel, who has recently received a Michelin star is expected to take part.
Visitors to the fair will be able to sample some of the dishes that restaurant owners and volunteers will prepare in the kitchens that are being especially set up for the occasion.  In the central area other stands from Xerta and the Terres de l’Ebre will be offering food and drink to sample against the purchase of special tickets which can be bought on arrival.
As was the case last year, there will be a marquee on the sports ground outside the Casal and this will house the remaining exhibitors:  various local councils, local associations and businesses, etc.    No doubt photographs entered in the photography competition will once again be on display, the subject of which will come as no surprise:  “THE ORANGE”.
Should you not be fortunate enough to live in the ‘orange belt’ as we do, remember that until next month we still have available oranges and satsumas freshly-picked at 1 Euro per carrier bag  (as well as home-made marmalade). Just e-mail kcordaroy@yahoo.com for more details.
